Contained herein is an outline of the group benefits which FNIS can provide for the employees of all First Nations communities and their affiliated services, including Boards of Directors, Chiefs and Councillors, Elders, Senators, and privately-owned First Nations businesses.
Group Insurance Plan
The FNIS Plan (formerly the NIFC Plan) was implemented July 1, 1991 and has been growing steadily since.
The group insurance plan fulfills the following objectives:
- Protects the health rights of Treaty employees;
- Offers a group insurance plan for eligible employers which provides:
- uniform benefits
- an ability to customize coverage by offering a choice of benefit levels
- quality service to all participating groups
- creates employment for First Nations individuals
- provides accountability to employers and members
- attains the advantages available by virtue of the purchasing power of one large group as opposed to many small groups
- provides education sessions and administrative training to each group, and
- provides uniform and consistent claims administration and adjudication.

First Nations Insurance Services also offers the Employee & Family Assistance Program - a counselling, information and advisory service for you, your partner and your children in which your privacy is strictly protected.

Pension Plan
Beyond this, First Nations Insurance Services offers a Pension Plan with The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and Sun Life of Canada: a strong partnership providing you with long-term security and superior service. Sun Life works with the National Indian Financial Corporation and its subsidiary, First Nations Insurance Services to provide you with this innovative plan.
